Science says that we only use ten percent of our brain, but how could that be true if our brain control everything? Below is a list of the different parts of the human brain and how injury to each affects us, from our sex drive to gait:
Amygdala – Injury to the amygdala may affect: memory formation, emotional sensitivity, learning and retention, depression and anxiety.
Brainstem – Injury to the brainstem may affect: heart rate, breathing and swallowing.
Cerebellum – Injury to the cerebellum may affect: movement, muscle tone and gait.
Frontal Lobes – Injury to the frontal lubes may affect: emotions, impulse control, language, memory and social and sexual behavior.
Hippocampus – Injury to the hippocampus may affect: new memory creation and retention, mood, confusion and disorientation.
Hypothalamus – Injury to the hypothalamus may affect: sex drive, sleep, hunger, thirst and emotions
Occipital Lobes – Injury to the occipital lobes may affect: distortion of the visual field and perceptions of size, color and shape.
Parietal Lobes – Injury to the parietal lobes may affect: the ability to locate and recognize parts of your body.
Pituitary Gland – Injury to the pituitary gland may affect: growth in children, blood pressure, fatigue, depression, sex drive, body temperature and pain.
Temporal Lobes – Injury to the temporal lobes may affect: hearing, language, the ability to recognize a familiar person’s face and processing sensory information.
